TurningPoint Church is currently seeking someone who has a passion for stewardship, accuracy, and financial management. The Financial Accountant is responsible for keeping the church’s general ledger and financial records and will prepare related forms and reports as necessary, in addition to preparing all checks for accounts payable. This person will help ensure that the church’s finances are in accord with legal, ethical, and biblical standards. Talents or Abilities Desired: Accounting education and 2 years accounting experience Good with Figures Discreet / Confidential Analyst Excellent Organizational Skills Verbal & Written Communication Skills Anticipated Time Commitments: Doing ministry/preparing for ministry: 40 hours per week Participating in meetings/training: Must attend weekly staff meetings and other training as deemed necessary by leadership. Responsibilities/Duties: Keep confidential all financial and business matters of Turning Point Church. Keep accurate records of member contributions and prepare year-end summaries for each member for tax and individual review purposes. Keep accurate records of all church income through tithes, offerings, and special gifts. Keep accurate records of all church expenditures ensuring they are legal and in compliance with best practices for accounting. Inform executive administrator if expenditures exceed budget allowances. Prepare financial reports for the Senior Pastor, Executive Administrator & Ministry Leaders. Prepare any required reports or forms for board of directors, executive administrator, auditor, CPA, IRS, bank representatives or other offices of accountability. Attend church business meetings to answer questions related to church finances when asked. Prepare manual payroll checks when necessary and related tax records/payments. Manage Accounts Receivable and Payable for expenses and obligations. Prepare checks for contributions to missions work and other special endeavors. Prepare reimbursement checks upon approval of executive administrator. Reconcile and balance church checking accounts. Work closely with CPA firm in the preparation and reconciliation of all financial records, credit card statements, and monthly bank statements. Assist executive administrator and CPA in preparation of year end reports. Oversee the processing of all collection of tithes and offerings. Work with the Benevolence Committee providing financial accounting and support. Other duties as assigned by Executive Administrator and/or Senior Pastor. Equipment Use: Computer, telephone, calculator, printer, QuickBooks Online, Shelby Financial (preferred), Microsoft office suite. Physical Capabilities: 5% Standing 10% Walking 70% Sitting 5% Twisting 5% Pushing/Pulling 5% Lifting (52 lbs. or less) Climbing (ladder, stairs etc. Mental Abilities/Capabilities: Professional attitude toward staff, members, visitors and vendors at all times. Service oriented and willingness to work with church staff, members, visitors and vendors. Flexibility to change schedule to accommodate unforeseen circumstances. Ability to handle fast pace, high volume atmosphere from time to time. Required Travel: Pick-up and deposit money at bank. Delivery of benevolence ministry: i.e., making payments for utilities, rent etc. All mileage is reimbursable at the current IRS approved rate.
